Theatre is where it all began for Blue Parrot. Many of us have very strong theatrical backgrounds, our creative flair serves us well when producing events too. We offer lighting & sound design, programming and operation as well as all stage management services from Production Manager through to ASM's.
As well as supplying to theatres nationwide from our extensive hire stock we also provide services to theatre, and many of us continue to work as theatre practitioners on a weekly basis. Our main areas of expertise are Lighting Design, Sound Design and Video Integration, but we also provide Stage Management and Set Design.
Lighting Design - Our lighting designers have experience working on shows of all types and sizes, ranging from intimate studio plays to large scale musicals in 3000 seat regional theatres, as well as site specific work. To be a good designer you need to have a great understanding of the tools of your trade - working in a busy hire house certainly helps with that!
As well as designers we can provide lighting programmers for your production. We currently have expert programmers on the ETC Eos family of consoles as well as GrandMA 2 and Avolites.

Sound Design – When it comes to a theatre production one of the most important and most criticised technical aspects is the sound design. Blue Parrot has a highly skilled team of sound engineers and designers to give your ears the best experience possible, creating the perfect balance between the musicians in the pit and the actors on stage. Our designers will work closely with the creative team creating sound effects, atmospheres, sonic textures and filmic ambiances. We will choose the correct number of speakers and microphones within your budget to make sure that every single person in the theatre hears the same, whether that be the person right in front of a speaker or the person at the very back of the auditorium.
Stage Management - We have skilled Production Managers, Stage Managers, DSMs and ASMs on our books, with plenty of experience in residential and touring theatre alike. We also offer free use of our offices for production work when you have one of our team on board.
Equipment Hire - our inventory is heavily centred around theatrical requirements - we offer all the brands and equipment you'll find populating all the major West End theatre shows. Everything is expertly maintained and checked before each hire, so you can be sure you'll have no problems when it arrives at your venue. We also offer pre-production services such as pre-addressing and labelling of all intelligent lighting fixtures, saving you valuable time on your tech days.
